Hwang Seoung-Woo
Korea
Artist background: A stack of books representing accumulated cross-cultural knowledge over time or the commentary on the permanence of our society’s ecological decisions?
"Papers are very important in our lives because not only do they serve as the material we use in our everyday activities, but they also serve as a kind of 'hidden power' bearing the language that we use. I chose to carve a huge pile of accumulated papers in stone," Hwang says, reflecting the various uses everybody makes of them.
Graduate of the Fine Art Academy in Carrara, this Korean born artist currently lives in Italy and has participated and acted as a commissioner in over 25 International Symposia.
His authentic and highly recognisable style can be seen in a number of significant public commissions in Bahrain (National Museum), Damascus (Syrian National Library), Korea, Australia, Norway, Spain and U.A.E (Burj Dubai)
